THERE IS A SEASON & A TIME (An expository on Eccl. 3)
There is a young lady who had been looking for the fruit of the womb. God gave me a revelation that she was pregnant and in the middle of the night, I woke up my wife and shared with her. One week later, the husband phoned to say she had malaria. Of course, they had done some tests and there was malaria parasite in her blood. Pregnancy tests were as of then, negative. 2 months later it turned out that she was pregnant. While you are still praying, He is already seeing it and calling it y name while you are yet to see it. Those were the things that Abraham had that you and I do not have. The bible says he trusted God and believed God for he knew God is dependable.
Even if you have no womb and God says He is giving you a child, you had better receive because the baby can develop on the wall of the stomach since God has already called the baby by name. The bible says “Eyes have not seen, ears have not heard, neither has it entered in to the imagination of man the things that God has prepared for those that trust Him”. They are far above our imagination, God says in Isaiah 55, “My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts higher than your thoughts”. Heb. 11:6 says that without faith, it is impossible to please God. It is faith that we need to walk with God, to trust Him. God is not asking you to walk with feelings. For instance, if you feel that you are too tired, you won’t come to church, but when you know that in your tiredness, He will heal you, you will go. By the end of the service, you won’t even remember your tiredness.
Events happen at particular times in a season. There is a season for sowing, another for harvesting. For everything that happens under the sun, there is a season and there is a time. Science has advanced so much that today, a woman can be told the exact time she conceived and with accuracy, her Expected Date of Delivery (EDD). Solomon tells us in Eccl. 3 that for everything, there is a season and a time and your season and time must come in Jesus’ name. You don’t need to struggle. Just work, and hope, and pray, and trust in God. But if you sit down waiting for the day it will come, it will look a very long day.
Eccl. 3, “To everything, there is a season”. In dry season, you don’t see Christians praying against rain when preparing for a special programme because it is unusual for rain to fall in a dry season. But if you are planning for a crusade or your wedding in the rainy season, you will need to spend long hours praying for rain not to fall. “To everything there is a season and a time to every purpose under the heaven”. One is inside the other. Times are within seasons. I remember those days when I was in primary school. It was the season of pots of ink. We use to dip our pens into the ink to write and the only way to show that you are going to school is to have an ink stain in your shirt pocket. There is a time in every season when that season will come to an end. Your primary school education is for a season, then you move on to the season for secondary school. A time comes when you leave secondary school and you start looking forward to entering the university. God is in control of your life. You are a child of destiny, a child of purpose. You have a beginning and an end. Your future is secure in Christ and nothing can happen to you without God knowing about it.
The bible says, “A time to be born and a time to die. A time to plant, a time to pluck up that which was planted. A time to kill and a time to heal. A time to breakdown and a time to build up” . If your father dies and leaves you a house, 40years later, at best it will look like a poultry house compared with new houses that would have come up around it. Meanwhile when that house was built, it might have been the best in town in those days. When money comes, the first thing you will do is to pull down the house and erect a modern building in the same place.
I used to think that the secondary school I attended fell down from heaven. A couple years ago when I visited the place, I shook my head. The whole place was derelict and overgrown with weeds. What we used to call our dormitory was no more. Secondary school principals used to be next to God. When we see the principal coming, we shake and shiver whether we are doing the right or wrong. That was our time. Today, a student can go into the principal’s office to harass him. A student can tell the principal, “Can’t you hear me. My father said I should call you. My father said I should ask you why……” When they fail in class, they threaten and waylay the teacher to harm him on the way home. They exhort money from their parents only to waste it frivolously. The other day, I saw a professor’s daughter eating puff-puff and drinking a bottle of coke. There was nothing wrong with this. What I found interesting was that she kept shaking the bottle and finally threw the bottle on the ground with half of its content pouring away. The puff-puff she also ate half-way and discarded the rest. The father meanwhile is aging and struggling to earn a living. When I accosted her and told her to follow me, she went on her knees and started begging promising not to do so again. There is a time to breakdown and a time to build. I think we need a breakdown now for a build-up in this nation.
At a time while I was still working in the College of Medicine, I needed to recruit extra staff. There was a girl that applied and her school cert results said she had A1 in Mathematics. When I gave her simple algebraic equation, she could not solve it and this got me disturbed. I started cross-examining her and she finally confessed that the results belonged to her sister. There is a time to sow deception and a time to reap fruits of deception.
You do not need to cheat and deceive as your season will surely come and your time will come inside of your season. “A time to laugh, and a time to weep. A time to mourn and a time to dance. A time to cast away stones and a time to gather stones”. When you are building, it’s always the ugliest of sights because they first of all dig up everything. It is usually a time to scatter followed by a time to gather. Whatsoever has been scattered in your life, God will gather it back for you. Whatever has made you weep, God will make you laugh in the name of Jesus.
When you sow, you don’t harvest the same day. Harvest comes after sowing. Whatever God has helped you to sow, be patient to partake in the harvest. It is your time to dance. This will be your season of dancing in Jesus’ name. As the seed of your parents, you will prosper and give birth to children. Your season of dancing has started and the time to dance is now. Remember those 2 scriptures that God gives life to those things that are dead and gives names to those things that you don’t see. He calls those things that do not exist as if they are already in existence. Sarah did not start nursing her baby till she was 90years old. I was at a birthday party the other day and on my table was woman which just had a baby at 60. The baby was looking so handsome and to prove that she was the mother, she was breastfeeding the baby. People were perplexed and she was passing the baby round for them to see. You mean the God of Sarah is still alive and the God still in heaven! Yes, He does not change. The God we are serving can work His talk. Integrity is all about working your talking. When you say a thing, you go ahead and do it. God does not say what He cannot do. He is not known to say frivolous things or dwell in trivialities. And there is nothing He cannot do. Concerning you, you will prosper, you will dance. Whatever has been scattered will be gathered. Whatever has made you weep will make you laugh. You will see the end of the matter in Jesus name.
Finally, our premise is that there is “A time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing”. You don’t embrace armed robbers; you embrace friends who will make you go forward. “A time to gain, and a time to lose”. God is not saying you will incur losses. No! The law of receiving is the law of giving. For as long as you continue to give, you will continue to receive. When you stop giving and stockpile the blessings of God upon your life, many people suffer as a result of your action because you were meant to be the channel of blessings to them. When you keep up the process of giving out, you can never lack. That is my testimony. God has made me a man who can never lack again. I live one day at a time. What is it that you want that you think God cannot give? The widow of Zarephath said I have just one measure of flour to bake and me and my son will eat and die. You will not eat the food that will kill you in Jesus’ name. Elijah told her no, you won’t eat cake that will kill you. Go and make for me and I will take out the death. Once you make that cake for me, death has left your house. As a prophet of God, the food that will kill you will not kill me. Once I eat, it is blessed. Elijah ate the food that would have killed the woman and her son and the bible reported that the woman had enough to eat with her son all through the period of famine. Prophets don’t work with death, they work with God.
The bible says in Prov. 11:24725, “There is he that scatters and yet increases, and there is he that withholds more than is due but it tends to poverty. The liberal soul shall be made fat and he that waters shall be watered also”. Have you ever seen a man who is watering a garden? His feet are perpetually wet. As he is watering plants, he will be watering his feet between. The bible says when you hold too tight, it will tend to poverty. If you left N2million in your savings account last year, by this year, the value would have dropped to N1million. The N2million is still there in the account but what it would have bought back then; you will require N4million to buy now. But if you know how to give, somebody would have told you to change the money to dollars or pounds sterling before keeping the money and you will find that the money would have doubled by now. Once you let go, the same hand that has opened receives another one and for as long as you keep giving out, the hand will keep receiving. If you remember the widow and the oil, the bible says once the empty vessels finished and she was no longer pouring out, the oil also stopped.
You are the one who will determine the next level that you want God to take you.
